Who We Serve
Simply put, Sequoia serves a population large enough and diverse enough to be a small city—32,000 patients in 2005 for a total of 119,700 patient visits. Seventy-two percent of those patients live at or below poverty level. In fact, many of our patients cannot afford transportation and walk to the Sequoia health center in their neighborhood. More than 60% of Sequoia’s patients are women; more than 40% are patients between birth and 19 years old.Sequoia’s patients also represent a wide ethnic and racial spectrum including Hispanic or Latino, African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native and Hmong. Sixty percent of Sequoia’s patients are also challenged with language barriers. Our health center services and call systems provide multilingual translation, including Spanish and Hmong.
