Employee Spotlight
Sherry Valdez

Sherry has been with Sequoia Community Health Centers for 14 years. She started with Sequoia as an Extern from San Joaquin Valley College’s Medical Assistant program and upon graduation became a full-time employee. She is currently a Medical Assistant in Family Practice at Elm.
In December 2003, Sherry was nominated for Employee of the Month, as well as being nominated by Sequoia for Blue Cross’ Medical Assistant of the Year award.
Asked what she liked about Sequoia, Sherry said, “I love my patients and the programs that Sequoia provides.”
Sherry’s peers say that she is an outstanding and special Medical Assistant. She continually seeks new and better ways of doing tasks and is approximately 99.999% accurate and her knowledge of Sequoia is exceptional.
Sherry sets high goals for herself and strives to reach them. She works extremely well under pressure. Sherry consistently produces outstanding work exceeding departmental standards. She can and will handle a multitude of tasks without any complaints.
Sherry’s supervisor says she could not do her job without the assistance of her. When she is away at meetings, she has total confidence that the patients, providers and staff will be taken care of as long as Sherry is on the floor. She grasps new concepts quickly and teaches the other Medical Assistants.
Sherry will go out of her way to help others, and will stay overtime if needed. She is extremely professional. She is very dedicated to Sequoia and to the providers. In the eleven years that Sherry has been with Sequoia it has been suggested to her several times that she should go back to school and get her nursing degree. She has considered it, but has always chosen to stay with Sequoia Community Health Centers.
It is difficult to express how special she is; as she demonstrates day-to-day what it means to be not just be a Medical Assistant, but an exceptional Medical Assistant.
When Sherry is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her 15 year-old son, nieces and nephews. She goes to all her son’s sports games and they both enjoy going to the movies together.
